What is cruelty-free certification?
Animal experiments are inhumane, unreliable, and a blow to nature. According to the animal rights movement, cruelty-free contains products or activities that haven’t passed through animals. Products tested on animals are not considered cruelty-free because these tests are usually painful and lead to the death of many animals per year.
Nowadays, the term ‘cruelty-free’ and ‘not tested on animals’ are not used correctly among product manufacturers. So, this means some companies can campaign for cruelty-free makeup and skincare products while their products are not cruelty-free. If the final product may not have been tested on animals while the ingredients were made from animals, then it’s not cruelty-free.

When a product labels 100% cruelty-free makeup and skincare, it implies that:
- The end product is free from animals.
- The ingredients of the product are free of animals.
- The product or its ingredients hasn't passed through animals by a third-party.
- Vegan products don't necessarily imply that they are free of animal testing.
Why is there a lack of cruelty-free products in the world?
This practice first started in the drug industry. Since humans and animals share similar metabolism, drugs were tested on animals to determine if it will be safe on humans. This then became viral as many companies started using animals to test different types of products such as cosmetics, perfumes, household products, and more. Some products are manufactured with every ingredient tested on animals, including the packaging. Worst still, many of these animals die from these experiments.
The rise of cruelty-free certification
The rise of cruelty-free certification has helped reduce the rate of animal torture and promoted the use of the natural compound in manufacturing items. Before products are termed as cruelty-free, it has to pass through several certifications processes.
CDG objectives include
- Help stop animal testing worldwide
